Patriarchy

 Breukelen Bleu

It was pointed out that the black women who spoke at this rally focused on their dead sons, and police brutality. This is a *WOMAN'S* rally, yet *BLACK* women decided ONCE AGAIN, that their *SONS* are their greatest concern.

.

.

Not the 64k missing black women in this country.

.

Not the 60% rape rates of black girls before the age of 18.

.

Not the 20x HIV stats for bw.

.

Not the eviction rates that mirror bm's incarceration rates.

.

Not the 6x school suspension rates for black girls.

.

Not the dwindling access to reproductive health, birth control & abortion in primarily black areas.

.

Not the collective of black women being worth $5.

.

Not the murder rates of black woman at almost 3x the rate of ww.

.

Not the 11x matricide rage of black pregnant women & new mothers.

.

Not the 50% Herpes rate.

.

Not the 60 cents on the dollar that bw make compared to wm.

.

Not the 2.5x infant mortality rate for black babies & 4x death rate for black mothers.

.

Not our underrepresentation in government, corporate america, higher education and finance.

.

Not our 80% obesity rate, 39% higher breast cancer rate, 2x as high heart disease rates.

.

Not the 50% higher depression rates than ww

.

Not the 72% out of wedlock birth rates

.

Not the abysmal marriage rates.

.

Not the 2x as high divorce rates than ww.

.

Not the 6x higher incarceration rates than ww.

.

.

Not. Any. Of. That. ^^^

.

.

When given the chance to speak to black WOMENS issues on a GLOBAL PLATFORM, black women decided their focus should be on the deaths and inequities of Rayquan'n'em. Not the scores of black DAUGHTERS who have faces the same peril.

.

Something is TERRIBLY wrong with this picture. Something is terribly, terribly wrong.

.

.

This is not even about them.

.

This is about US.

.

This is about US and what EVER it is that makes black women place their daughters, sisters, mothers and selves at the back of all things considered, and the effect it's having on our position as a whole.

.

.

Let's talk about this. Why, even when given the platform designed specifically to do so, won't black women CHOOSE BETTER by choosing OURSELVES?

----

I did not watch or participate in the Women's March this weekend, but I would not be surprised if what is described above actually happened. Can anyone else confirm that more time was spent talking about black men's experiences with police brutality than black women's and girls' experiences with the above?
